I thought I'd do another update post sort of following the same format as my weekly pregnancy posts. They say the first 3 months with a new baby is really the "forth trimester" so I thought I'd do just a couple more of these updates.
How far along? 5 weeks post-partem
Maternity clothes? Yes and no. I lost 20 pounds within the first week after having Megatron. Most of the remaining weight seems to be in my lower belly and my chest. Without going into too much detail, I had hoped there would be an advantage to the "girls" in that I would end up being the Dairy Queen. And for the most part that has become a reality. The downside to that is dressing my new shape. The majority of my maternity shirts are too large in the torso yet too small in the chest. Only a couple of my pre-pregnancy tops fit. I'm still wearing maternity shorts/capris but they are too big. But my pre-pregnancy shorts are too small in the hips. I've been able to wear some lounge-wear and some workout gear which is great around the house but not so much when its time to venture out. I lucked out and Target was having a sale. . . an additional 20% off all clearance clothing. I picked up a couple tops one size larger than my usual size which was just enough extra room in the chest.
Have you started to show? Depending on what I'm wearing, I don't think I look pregnant anymore. Knowing what I looked like before though, I'd say I have about a 3-months pregnant look to my mid-section.
Symptoms: Well, the evil things like heartburn, hip and back pain have gone away! Almost all of the symptoms from the HELLP syndrome have also gone away. My blood pressure is back to my normal 110/75 range and no more chest pain! I was slightly anemic when I left the hospital so I'm still on an iron supplement to help remedy that. I go this week for a follow up on that. My body is still figuring out post-partem life though. There is still some unpleasantness that I won't get into on the internet. If you've had a baby that wasn't born via c-section, then you know what I'm talking about.
Activity: Does feeding a baby every 2-3 hours, pumping breast milk every 3 hours around the clock (more on that later) count as activity? If so, then I'm really active! I've really started to feel better in the last week so I've been moving around a lot more. There was the walk the other night and I hope to slowly keep at it so I can try to get back into a decent workout routine. I've also got a post-partem mom and baby workout DVD that I'm just waiting on the OK from my doctor to try out.
Best moment this week: Watching "Happiest Baby on the Block" and realizing the tips for soothing a crying baby really do work. There was also some nursing success! Since Megatron was early, he wasn't ready to latch on consistently. He's figuring that part out but now the challenge is his endurance...or lack there of. He takes a bottle like a champ but the extra work required on his part to nurse leaves him sleepy. He's too dang small to just let him work at it. He needs to eat. So that means nearly every 3 hours for the last 5 weeks I have been pumping in order to meet his demands. It's exhausting, but we met with a lactation consultant who worked with us and helped us come up with a game plan. So far its working! Megatron is now nursing every 2-3 feedings and taking a bottle of the milk I pumped for his other feedings.
Miss anything/movement: I'm combining these because I miss the movement. I didn't think I would but I do miss some of those little flutters. I certainly don't miss the jabs to my bladder or rib cage but it is a bit surreal to watch Megatron kick and twitch on the outside now. When I'm cradling him in my arms and a hand or foot twitches, it is as if I am watching the movements I felt from the inside for so many months. It's so surreal!
Food cravings: While I'm not quite as hungry as I was in that third trimester, I'm much more hungry than I was pre-pregnancy. Nursing works up an appetite! I'm also not picky at all. I told The Pilot that I feel like I can be easily influenced. I can see a commercial for some food item and then will want it. He can suggest something for dinner and then I'll suddenly want that. I will say the best food has been the food that others have brought for us! Some homemade, some takeout, it doesn't matter. People bringing food is probably one of the most helpful things in these first couple weeks (second only to my parents coming over so The Pilot and I can take a nap!).
Gender: I had this slight fear we'd plan for a boy and then be surprised if a girl actually came out...but Megatron is in deed a boy. :) Most definitely a boy as both The Pilot and I have been peed on already.
Looking forward to: Surviving the first 3 months. Everyone tells us the first couple months are the most difficult. I'm holding out hope that it will indeed get easier. I'm also looking forward to being able to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time.
Not looking forward to: As if Megatron's arrival wasn't stressful and scary enough, little man has had a few complications. Most likely from his early arrival but he has jaundice that just won't seem to go away. We have more testing at the local Children's Hospital and then will have to wait for the results. I'm not looking forward to any of it!
Milestones: All three of us survived the first month! That's all I can ask for! :)

Megatron's Grand Entrance
Settle in. This is going to be a long one!
Over the next two days in the hospital, both Megatron and I regained some strength. The evening of his second day, he was released from the NICU to the normal nursery, which was a huge relief for us. He was still under the lights for his jaundice but other than that, he wasn’t hooked up to anything. We were able to keep him in our room on our third day, which became the first day we spent together as a family. It was looking like I would be released later that night, and we began to worry that we would have to leave him behind in the hospital. The hospital staff continued to monitor Megatron’s jaundice, and eventually decided that he could be released as well.
It’s taken some time to process the last two weeks of our
lives. I don’t know that I have fully
grasped it all or if I ever will. I
think I will be forever overwhelmed by the day we became parents.
After my doctor gave me the HELLP syndrome diagnosis, she
calmly told us that it was time to have a baby.
It feels like a lifetime ago that she said that but I know I cried. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way! The Pilot and my mom were both in the room,
which was a comfort. She explained that
while it was still early, it really was the best thing to protect both me and
the baby. I knew in my heart that it was
the right decision but my head was so conflicted.
We tried to keep calm despite the stress. Obviously we grew up in the 80s....
"Ouuuuuch."
My doctor checked and much to everyone’s surprise, I was
already 3 centimeters dilated. While I
could have easily walked around at 3 cm for the next 5 weeks, it sort of made
me feel like it was all meant to be; that our baby was supposed to arrive early
and I instantly felt better about what was happening.
I was admitted to the labor and delivery floor of the
hospital late on Sunday, July 14, 2013. An IV was started and they gave me magnesium
sulfate for the HELLP syndrome (my understanding is that it is a muscle relaxer
that would help protect me from having a seizure) and Pitocin to induce labor. As they got the IV started, my doctor checked
on me one more time before leaving for the night. I was told I would need a catheter but I didn’t
understand why at the time so that was when I asked my doctor if I’d be able to
walk around. When she told me no, I
cried for the second time that night.
I was hoping for a natural birth, with as little medical
intervention as necessary. I’m also a
realist and knew that this was something I had never experienced. I didn’t naively go into childbirth thinking
that I could handle it without pain medication. The Pilot and I researched all of the options,
read up on ways to naturally deal with pain but also learned about the
different medicinal options I would have once in the hospital. I wanted to go in with an open mind. I would try a natural birth, but if that wasn’t
in the cards, then I would let it go and accept it. As long as the outcome was a healthy baby,
then the “how” he got here wouldn’t matter.
So when the doctor told me that due to the magnesium sulfate
I was on, I would be in bed from then until 24 hours after delivery, I was
naturally upset. I was a fall risk
(since it is a muscle relaxer), had to be continuously monitored because my
blood pressure was going up, plus they were keeping a close watch on the baby’s
vitals also. Part of dealing with
childbirth naturally is walking around.
It’s bouncing on a stability ball.
It’s doing everything except lying on your back in a hospital bed. The Pilot
was the one who had to step in to explain to the doctor and nurses in the room
why I was upset. I’m sure I was sitting
there crying with a look of panic on my face. Again, this was not how I envisioned my baby’s
arrival. But I had to roll with it.
I asked that I at least be told when I was approaching the “point
of no return” when it came to making a decision about an epidural. I really wanted to labor as long as possible
without any pain medication. The only
reason I was even still considering an epidural-free delivery at this point was
that I had a break in the chest pain.
They had given me something high strength for acid reflux that seemed to
ease the pain in my chest a little. My
doctor then hit me with the next blow.
Because of the HELLP Syndrome, my platelet count was low. My liver wasn’t functioning correctly. Both were working against me. You cannot receive an epidural if your
platelets are too low. Basically, if I
waited on an epidural, there would be a chance my platelets would be too low and
it wouldn’t be an option any more. The
decision would be made for me. No
epidural. My doctor also warned that if
my platelets dropped and I ended up needing a c-section, I would have to go
under general anesthesia. Meaning I
wouldn’t be awake for the birth of my baby.
That was NOT an option for me.
They let me think that over for a little while. And in that short time, the pain in my chest
returned worse than ever. It felt like I
couldn’t breathe it hurt so badly. I’m
not kidding when I say I thought my heart was just going to stop.
Around 2:30 am on Monday, July 15, the resident OB broke my
water. Thirty minutes later I opted for
the epidural. Not for labor pain but for
the chest pain. The resident assured me
that an epidural was still an option and that it would help with the chest
pain. I knew I had a long night of labor
ahead of me plus I would need the energy to actually deliver. So in went the epidural. The chest pain was gone within 15
minutes. And I was able to rest. Clearly that was the best decision given the
circumstances.
I tried to sleep but my head was racing, thinking of all the
things that hadn’t been done yet at home.
I was supposed to have a couple more weeks to prepare! While I had a couple baby showers and we had
a lot of the basics, there were still things we needed. I also hadn’t fully prepped the people who
would be filling in for me at work. The
Pilot was sleeping on a couch in my hospital room and I didn’t want to wake him
up(he hadn’t gotten much sleep recently either), so I finally asked the nurse
for a piece of paper and a pen. It was
probably 4 am. I told her I needed to
make a list or I’d be awake all night.
So I made a list…and then got a little sleep.
The resident checked my progress a couple times during the
early morning hours, and I was moving right along. Faster than I thought! I kind of panicked when they said I was 8
centimeters. It was about this same time
that I started to feel the contractions.
The epidural was wearing off and the contractions were getting
stronger. Part of me was glad that I was
feeling something so at least I would know when to push. And of course the other part of me wanted
more drugs because the pain was returning!
Not too long after that my doctor returned. I was 9 centimeters. Say what? The pain was definitely increasing
to the point I couldn’t talk through the contractions. I had to close my eyes, hold The Pilot’s hand
and focus. I didn’t need to be told when
the contractions were coming but at some point the nurse or doctor started
talking me through each one and gave me the option to do some practice
pushes. That’s all it took to get to the
full 10 centimeters. It was business
time.
The Pilot stood right next to my head and counted to ten,
three times for each contraction. In
between the contractions I was able to lay back and relax a little (after the
doctor reminded me to relax!). It seemed
like time stood still yet moved so fast at the same time. I felt like I was only pushing for a couple
minutes when my doctor told me to open my eyes; that the baby was almost there. I wanted to tell her I wasn’t ready. I needed more time! But I opened my eyes and in
that instant, she placed my baby boy on my stomach. I didn’t even know just how “almost there” I
was! I knew the pain went through the
roof but I didn’t realize that it was because the baby was well on his way
out. It was like an out of body
experience. I was there but not
really. Luckily instinct kicked in and I
grabbed my baby and pulled him closer to me.
I started crying and I can remember feeling overwhelmed and in love…yet
also like I was watching a TV show. It
was like it was happening to someone else.
I later found out that that feeling was most likely the result of the
magnesium. The longer I was on it, the foggier
my brain became.
My doctor had warned us before I started pushing that it
might be a little scary when the NICU team arrived in the room. She explained there would probably be 5-6
people all working to prepare for the baby’s arrival but that it was standard
for the early babies. To tell you the
truth, I barely noticed when they arrived.
I was already focused on getting through each contraction and pushing
that I didn’t notice just how many people were in the room. The Pilot commented later that it was a little
scary.
I was only able to hold my baby for a minute before the NICU
team took him and started working on him in the room. Little man came out kicking and screaming but
because he was early, he needed a little help.
From my understanding, they gave him some oxygen, but not much and it
wasn’t under pressure. I was pretty fuzzy during this time,
partially because of the magnesium and partially because I was still in shock
of what had happened and how fast it happened.
I had only been in labor for 5 hours.
I had only been pushing for 20 minutes.
The Pilot hadn’t left my side and it was my doctor who told
him to go meet his baby. He walked over
and stayed with the baby while my doctor tended to me. A few minutes later, they brought Megatron
over to me, a little more cleaned up, with a hat on and wrapped in a
blanket. I was able to look at him and
kiss him just for a moment before they took him to the NICU. As they left the room, it felt like my heart
was on the outside of my body and was being rolled away from me. In my fuzzy, exhausted state, I suddenly
became a mom and the worrying started.
And I know it won’t end until I leave this Earth.
I had to consult with the The Pilot about what happened
after that. It all got really
fuzzy. While my symptoms from the HELLP
Syndrome continued to go away after delivery, the magnesium sulfate made it
very difficult to stay alert. I do
remember commenting to my doctor that labor took less time than it takes me to
do a full marathon so I was having a hard time deciding which was more
challenging. I also threw out there that because he was early, I’d have an
extra month to prepare for what I’m eyeing as my “comeback” race. Trust me though, this was all said as a
joke. I wasn’t seriously thinking about
my “comeback” while my doctor was doing some repair work. Humor is how I deal with stress.
Once the NICU team was ready to roll, they had The Pilot
follow them so he would know where they were taking him. I guess my parents were pacing right outside
my room and were able to see Megatron as the rolled him down the hall. I don’t remember how long The Pilot was gone
but he came back and told me that he looked great and that he would be able to
go back to check on him once they got Megatron all set up in the NICU.
I’ve been through some pretty rough challenges in my life
but the 24 hours after Megatron’s arrival was the most difficult thing I have
ever experienced. Because I wasn’t able
to get out of bed, I wasn’t able to see Megatron. Since he was in the NICU, they couldn’t bring
him to me and I couldn’t go to him. It
was excruciating. I took comfort in
knowing that The Pilot was able to go down to check on him as often as he
wanted, but I wanted to see my baby.
Again, this wasn’t what I had envisioned for my baby’s first day! The Pilot took lots of pictures and video and
would come back to my room to share them with me. I cried every single time. My family and The Pilot’s parents all came
and all took turns visiting the NICU with The Pilot (Only 2 people were allowed
in at a time and one had to be a parent).
I was jealous that everyone else was getting to see the baby and I
couldn’t.
It also didn’t help that I felt pretty awful. The longer I was on the magnesium, the more
fuzzy my brain seemed to be. People were
coming and going and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I wanted so badly to look at the pictures on
The Pilot’s camera over and over but my eyes wouldn’t stay open.
Twenty four hours after delivery, I was taken off the magnesium
and was released from the labor and delivery floor to the post-partum
floor. Before taking me to my room
though, I was finally able to see Megatron.
I can’t even begin to describe what that moment felt like. I had waited for what felt like an eternity
to see him. It was also scary because he
was in an isolette, hooked up to all kinds of wires and had blue lights shining
on him because he had developed jaundice. He was doing really well, it just looked worse
than it was. Even knowing that though, I
wasn’t prepared for seeing him like that.
Our little glow worm
I think this picture says everything I was feeling in that moment.
We gathered our belongings (which seemed to multiply while
we were in the hospital) and The Pilot got a head start out to the car while
Megatron and I were loaded into a giant plastic cart. It was part cart and part wheelchair. We hitched a ride and a patient aid rolled us
down to the front entrance where The Pilot was waiting. On the ride from the post-partum floor down
to the lobby, lots of people stared, some asked how old he was and there were a
few “congrats.” We were quite the
spectacle. And the entire time I was
thinking “these strangers better not try to touch my baby!” Ahhh yes, the paranoia begins!

Week 34
Week 34
Rather than looking at the camera, I was looking at The Pilot who was most likely making faces at me trying to get me to laugh. It usually works...and then we end up with some strange out takes
.
How far along? 34 weeksMaternity clothes? I'm really determined to not have to buy anymore work appropriate pants...even though things are getting a little snug. I might have to wear the same 2 outfits for the last couple weeks of my pregnancy.... Another item I really don't want to have to buy more of? Bras. Unfortunately that isn't something one can "make do" with wearing the wrong size. Sigh.
Have you started to show? Yes, I ate a watermelon seed and this happened to me!
Symptoms: My hands and feet are starting to get a little puffy. It's probably not noticeable to most people (unless they see my ring digging into my finger). I have really narrow feet and skinny fingers so the fact that they have swollen a little is really only noticeable to me (though The Pilot could see it a little in my ankles the other day).
Baby boy's head is still down and has been putting pressure on my pelvic bone. It's like he's pushing his head against the bone and pushing out. Not painful, but certainly not comfortable either. He's also had his feet up in my ribs/lungs a few times. I usually get winded (even when sitting) or I can't even lean forward because he seems to be wedged.
Activity: Does playing Uno with The Pilot and a cat count as activity?
Yeah, that happened. We've had lots of hot, stormy weather here lately. Which seems to have zapped the little energy I have left. It was getting "late" (8 pm...because that's my style now) but I was waiting on some laundry to finish up before bed. We didn't want to get involved in watching TV so we opted for a game instead. We joked that we should pack the cards in my hospital bag in case we get bored (you know, in between contractions...riiiiight). The hospital staff would probably make fun of us for being so old school. We don't have smartphones so we resort to good ol' fashioned fun! :) We did have fun...and obviously it was such a wild time that the cat needed to take a nap...right there.
Best moment this week: I had my 34 week check up on Monday and got to hear his heartbeat again. It's amazing how loud and strong it sounds! It's starts as this whirling sound in the early scans and now its more of a thumping sound. I also got a pedicure with my mom on Monday. It was wonderful! Especially since it's really challenging to paint my own toes now. Hopefully this will last until delivery day!
Miss anything? Pelotonia is a big cycling fundraiser in Ohio and is next month. That means the cyclists are out in full force around town training for the ride. And seeing the hoards of cyclists is making me jealous. I pull into the garage and see my bike hanging on the wall and I swear it looks sad that it hasn't been ridden since last fall. I'm also missing seeing my training friends each week. They threw me a baby shower this week and it was perfect timing. I was really missing their smiles and encouragement!
Movement: I recently noticed I can tickle the little man. My belly itched (yeah, that fun has returned) and I was lightly running my fingernails over my belly when little man sort of rolled. I didn't think much of it until my friend mentioned she would do that to her baby when he was still cooking and he'd do the same thing. And she said that when she runs her fingers on his back now (he's almost 4), he does the same rolling movement he did while he was still on the inside. So I tried again. I ran my fingers across my belly where I was pretty certain his back was and sure enough, he rolled and squirmed. It's mind-blowing to me to think that everything I do, he experiences..and vice versa (as he must be stretching in this very moment and is wedged in between by rib cage and my pelvic bone because I can barely reach the keyboard).
He also got really sluggish the other day. Enough for me to call the doctor's office. As uncomfortable as some of his kicking can be, when there was an absence of kicking, my anxiety level went through the roof. The nurse told me to wait it out another hour or two, that he was probably sleeping. Sure enough, later in the day he started dancing a little jig on my bladder. and has been pretty active ever since. I've never been so relieved to almost pee my pants. When I was in the doctor's office a couple days later she reassured me that I did the right thing by one, noticing something was different and two, calling the office even though I was paranoid that I was being a nervous nelly. She told me to just keep doing my fetal kick counts twice a day and call when something is off. Sure I've done everything I can to keep myself and little guy healthy but I think that "parent worrying about their kid for the rest of their lives" thing kicked into full gear that day.
Food cravings: A pound of strawberries was put away in the last 24 hours... There was also some Pop Tart consumption. I've also eaten a lot more salad in the last week. The Pilot planted lettuce in his garden and it went bonkers! We have tons and tons of lettuce. It's pretty nice to be able to walk out the back door to grab some!
Gender: Mister Man! I think our friends and family are getting more and more excited to meet him but mostly because they want to know what his name is! I think it's driving some of them a little nuts that we are keeping the name a secret until he arrives.
Looking forward to: Seeing my feet while standing. Being comfortable. I'm basically uncomfortable 24/7 at this point. I can't seem to get comfortable in bed, in a chair, standing, anywhere. Basically I'm just looking forward to meeting our little man. I've also been told that while I won't sleep much in those first few weeks/months, the sleep I do get will be much more comfortable that what I've got going on now. I'm hanging onto that right now.
Not looking forward to: I can't possibly get any more uncomfortable....riiight?? As I walked out the door yesterday for work I told The Pilot that I have no idea how women with more than one kid manage to look after kids while they are pregnant. I feel like I'm barely able to get myself up and out the door some days! And the people I know who have carried multiples, holy smokes I have all the respect in the world for you (not that I didn't before, I just have a whole new respect now!).
Milestones: I'm about to start my weekly doctor visits already! It's crazy how fast this pregnancy has gone so far. I won't lie, the last couple weeks have gone really slowly. It fits the saying that the "days are long but the years are short." I'm uncomfortable and each day seems longer and longer but the weeks keep ticking by so quickly.
Baby boy was also serenaded again by his mama. Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby is a classic and little man must learn about music sampling...and DETROIT AVENUE. (C'mon, anyone between the ages of 25 and 40 probably just sang along with that. Admit it.)

Crazy Dreams/Nightmares
They say pregnancy can make women have some crazy dreams/nightmares and that's a symptom I have not escaped. In the 1st trimester, it was mostly nightmares. Like the kind that you can't seem to wake yourself up from and then when you finally do, you aren't sure if the nightmare was real. There were several nights I woke up from a nightmare and reached for The Pilot to make sure I was back in reality. Of course he wasn't always there which was distressing.
The second trimester was pretty quiet in terms of weird dreams and nightmares but now as I get closer to the end of the third trimester, the crazy dreams have started. Luckily these are more weird than disturbing. Well....I would consider this one disturbing but I didn't wake up confused and out of touch with reality.
I was going about my business when I realized the world had been taken over by zombies. This is even more strange because the whole zombie craze is lost on me. I hate those kinds of movies. Anyways, I was running from zombies when I came across a survivor who was also running and needed my help. It was Justin Bieber. This is the distubring part. I really don't like that punk. I should have let the zombies eat him. Being the nice person that I am though, I kept trying to help him but as we were running he kept falling down and asking me to carry him. Um...no. You little weenie.
I then realized that gravity was "working in reverse" (WTF?) and I kept telling him that we could "skydive" if we just jumped high enough in the air and then the wind would carry us away to safety. Except he couldn't jump because he hurt his ankle when he kept falling down. Probably because his pants were sagging to his knees and he was wearing sneakers that weren't tied. Again, what a punk.
And then I woke up.

Week 33
Week 33
How far along? 33 weeks
Maternity clothes? Yeay for hand-me-downs! The Pilot's cousin (in law) passed along a few things from her pregnancy last year. It's been nice to have a few more comfy pieces to pull into the rotation!
Have you started to show? I'm feeling rather....round.
Symptoms: I've never been all that graceful but my clumsiness has hit an all time high lately. I drop things. I bump into things. I lose my balance and kind of wobble but, like a weeble, I don't fall down. Thank goodness because I'd be stuck on the floor for sure. Why I continue to sit on the floor from time to time is beyond me. It's SO difficult to get back up. But the cats love them some head scratches and they are close to the floor. I need to work on getting them to come to my level instead. I also sat on the floor while putting together a baby seat...and then sat there and stared at the completed baby seat pondering how I was going to get off the floor.
Activity: There was the hissy fit inducing walk around the block over the weekend and then some "swimming" on Monday. There were also a million errands to run over the weekend that left me overheated and exhausted when I returned. I'm not exaggerating. I came home, dropped my bags on the floor, pulled my shoes and socks off, put my feet on the air conditioning vent and then dozed off on the couch for a little while.
Best moment this week: Getting a hug from The Pilot after being apart for 5 days. That was a loooong stretch but should be the last long trip before the baby arrives. He requested to only work 1- and 2-day trips from now until my due date. Fingers crossed I go into labor when he's home!
Miss anything? Still missing my bike a lot. My old body....I've never been so thankful for my formerly doughy self. I'll never take it for granted again...hopefully I will at least regain that! The other night I commented to The Pilot that I look forward to being able to just flop into bed and be automatically comfortable...or laying on my stomach. Arranging a million pillows to support my numerous achy body parts is a chore. So is rolling over with said pillows. And getting up out of the bed requires some feats of strength.
Movement: I thought for sure the movements would have slowed down by now (the doctor warned me about this since he's big and running out of space) but not so much. His kicks and jabs are as strong as ever. And now, when he rolls over, my entire belly moves. Still the most bizarre thing I have ever felt or seen. And it's still just as amusing. I almost always start laughing when I look down and see something rolling around. If The Pilot also witnesses it? I find this even more hysterical. I can't explain it.
Food cravings: I had some itty bitty strawberries...the last of the season from the local farmer's market. Boo. I randomly wanted Velveeta salsa dip the other day but luckily we don't typically keep processed cheese in the house. We'll see if I can keep that craving at bay. I did succumb to a Pop Tart craving....a couple times over. Darn it! I've also eaten a pound of carrots this week. Hopefully I don't turn orange.
Gender: Each week I get more and more excited to meet the little man. The waiting recently made me think of being a kid and going to my grandparents' house on Christmas Eve. There were always presents under the tree from my grandparents as well as from my aunts and uncles but we couldn't open anything until after dinner. I used to be under foot in the kitchen while my grandma made dinner and would whine that I "couldn't waaaaait to open presents". Grandma would just smile at me and say "well, you are just going to haaaave to." This is like Christmas times ten.
Looking forward to: Being able to tie my own shoes. I actually had The Pilot tie my shoes for me the other day. I can still do it...it's just uncomfortable and slow. We needed to leave and he was standing there. Such a good sport. I also randomly thought about giving our baby zerberts again. :) And of course there is that "new baby" smell. I'm not talking about the "baby just filled his diaper" smell but the"oh my gosh the world hasn't tainted you yet, fresh and clean" smell.
Not looking forward to: I feel like it is a matter of time before I get stuck in bed like a turtle on its back. Luckily The Pilot will be home more nights from now until little man arrives but there are still a few nights I'll be on my own...someone check on me if you haven't heard from me in a day or two. :P
Milestones: Teaching baby boy about the great works of U2? Via singing to him in the car while stuck in traffic. He's been exposed to many of U2's greatest hits (in my opinion) in the last week. Hopefully he appreciates his parents' taste in music when he is forced to listen once outside of my body. If not, we may disown him. I kid. Sort of. ;)

Week 32
Week 32
How far along? 32 weeks
Maternity Clothes? I've actually outgrown a few things. That makes me sad. I'm also getting strangely sensitive to how things fit. I really don't like having anything tight fitting. I basically run upstairs when I get home from work to change out of my work clothes and put on my "fat man" t-shirt and cotton shorts. I mumbled to The Pilot that I might have to go pick up another giant t-shirt. I had to wear a different one the other day when my favorite was in the laundry and my belly was poking out the bottom. Some might be ok with that, I am not. No one needed to be seeing that business back when I wasn't pregnant and they certainly don't need to see it now!
Have you started to show? There is a baby the size of a squash (nearly 4 pounds!) in there...you can't hide a squash!
Symptoms: The heartburn has come back. As did some nausea last week. My doctor thinks it is the combination of the heartburn and the baby squishing my stomach that is causing it. I've started trying to eat smaller meals more often and that seems to help a little though my schedule doesn't always allow for that.
Weight gain. Sigh. My pregnancy weight gain was pretty gradual at first. I think I only gained a pound in the first trimester. Even as I appeared bigger each week throughout the second trimester, the weight gain was pretty gradual. And then I got to the third trimester. I'm trying not to get on the scale too much (for my mental well-being) but I've certainly noticed the pounds are increasing more rapidly. It doesn't help that I'm at the doctor every other week now so I'm seeing the number more frequently. I also recently read that it's common for women to start gaining about a pound a week in the last couple weeks of pregnancy. Say what?! I keep trying to tell myself that I'm still well within the normal range of weight gain and that I've got a pretty good reason to be gaining weight but as I quickly approach my "number," I'm getting more self-conscious. The "number" I refer to is something that every formerly overweight person has. Their heaviest weight. The weight they vowed to never see again. I lost and kept off about 30 pounds six years ago. I've worked hard to keep it off. And now as I start to get closer to that number, it is certainly a head trip. Just like with the other symptoms and general uncomfortableness, I try to keep my eye on the prize as it will all be worth it in the end. I'm still eating healthy. I haven't turned into a complete couch potato. My baby is still growing and is healthy and I'm doing everything I can to keep it that way. I'm also trying to convince myself that it will make the work I'll put in once I've recovered from delivery even more rewarding. I've already started plotting my "comeback."
Activity: I would say that laundry and cleaning the house are the biggest workouts I'm getting lately. And while those are most definitely a challenge due to being exhausted, awkward and big, it's not the same as getting in a sweaty workout outside.
Best moment this week: The Pilot's family threw me a beautiful baby shower! The majority of his family lives out of state so we don't see them as often so it was great to see them before the baby arrives. Even better was that The Pilot's cousin-in-law was a co-host and made all the yummy food. She's also the one who made our wedding cake. The wedding cake that some of our guests (The Pilot and I included) still comment on and dream about. It was sooooo good. So when I walked into the shower and saw one of her cakes sitting there, I knew it was going to be a good time! She also made biscuits with strawberries from her garden. I nearly died and went to heaven...and then stole some for the road trip home.
Miss anything? I'm definitely really missing my workouts. I miss my bike. I miss my training group. I miss being able to move around without feeling so awkward. It's certainly all worth it but for someone who is used to being really active, it's been a challenge to just listen to my body and chill out. Relaxing has never been one of my strengths. Even though I have a pretty good "excuse" right now, it's still difficult. Especially when working out was my primary stress reliever.
Movement: I was cracking up the other night while I was sitting on the couch. I looked down and there was a little round bulge in my belly. I poked at it (because that's a natural reaction, right?) and it moved. I think it may have been baby boy's little butt. It was round and big...and I know for a fact that it wasn't his head (the doctor confirmed he's still hanging out head down). So naturally I poked at it again and it moved. He's not even born yet and getting annoyed by his mama. The Pilot wasn't home but I knew he was on the ground and still awake so I had to call to tell him about it. :)
Food cravings: While the strawberries are still pretty dang tasty, nectarines are now rocking my world. This is probably more due to the fact that strawberries are starting to come out of season and nectarines are in full force. I've also noticed an increased craving for junk food like potato chips and french fries. I try to curb those cravings but sometimes a pregnant woman just cannot be denied!
Gender: He's all boy...bouncing boy! He's still wiggling up a storm in there. It's working out great for us and we have a lot of friends/family with boys. The Pilot has a male cousin (in high school) who passed down some Legos to us. A cousin-in-law is letting us borrow some "boy" cloth diapers that her son used as a newborn. And one of my besties had a boy recently...except he was monster baby (he came out nearly 2 feet long!!) and couldn't wear any of the newborn or even some of the 3 month clothes that someone had passed down to them. So she shipped the clothes to me! Now, I'm on target to have a monster baby but we'll see what fits when he gets here!
Looking forward to: In the last week or so I've started to get really excited to meet him. Of course I want him to bake for a little longer in there but I'm looking forward to meeting the little human who has been jabbing my internal organs. I'm getting more curious as to what he will look like and what his personality will be like.
Not looking forward to: I'm in a constant state of HOT right now. And summer just started so I assume it will just get worse. I'm going to be a sweaty mess for the next 8 weeks. Please don't judge me if you see me in person and I look a little (a lot) disheveled.
Milestones: The Pilot experienced another rite of passage when it comes to being a parent. We received one of the car seats we registered for. It's the seat we intend to use once little man outgrows his infant seat but we wanted to make sure it fit in both of our cars. And so The Pilot experienced the joys of installing a car seat. I've actually already done this a couple times. I used to keep a seat in my car for my niece when she was little. It was always like wrestling a bear in the back of a small car. I wasn't in the garage when The Pilot was working on this but I didn't hear any cursing in the house so it must not have been too bad. I went out and checked out his handy work and he did great. That seat didn't budge when I gave it a shake. While the seat fit in both cars, I will lose the entire back seat in my car. We plan to keep the seat in the middle for as long as possible (they say that is the safest) but because I have a small car (Honda Fit), it eats into the other two seats so much that I think the only person that would fit back there is my skinny 5-year-old nephew. And that wouldn't even work because he still needs a booster seat. I can see why people end up getting bigger cars when kids come along! We are going to do our best to make do with the cars we have though. Especially since both are paid off and run great!

He Keeps Glaring At Me
WTF? Did I swaddle him wrong? Is his diaper in a bunch?
The Pilot and I took a "Baby Basics" class over the weekend. I like to think that after years of babysitting and spending lots of time with my neice and nephew that I've got the gist of baby basics but The Pilot doesn't have much baby experience so it was off to a 3- hour class on a Saturday afternoon (jealous?).
There is nothing more surreal than sitting in a room with 7 other pregnant ladies and their partners, a Rubbermaid bin full of anatomically correct baby dolls and a nurse. Moving on....
Naturally I was poking The Pilot as the class was getting started to take a picture of the baby doll. It was freaking me out. Especially when The Pilot would randomly grab its foot during the class, which would make it stand up slightly and I swear it was looking right into my soul with that creepy baby doll glare.
We learned how to diaper, bathe, burp, swaddle and clothe said creepy baby. It was a great refresher for me but I was quick to inform The Pilot that ALL of those activities are exponentially more difficult when the baby is actually moving. I'm sure we'll be fine though. Best way to learn is by doing, right? There was even a "competition" to see which couple could swaddle the fastest. That just added to the surreal experience as when we were done swaddling, you had to wave the baby in the air to let the nurse know you were done.
Hopefully we have a laid back baby who doesn't start glaring at us if we do get his swaddle wrong....or if we wave him in the air once he's been swaddled.

Week 30
Week 30
How far along? 30 weeks
Maternity clothes? I had purchased a maternity swim suit a couple weeks ago and was all set to wear it over the weekend. Only to find that my belly had already outgrown it. :( I may or may not have cried. But I sucked it up, returned the suit and got a different one. But by then I was too tired to actually get into the pool. Oh well. I'll try again.
Have you started to show? The Pilot superimposed this week's photo on top of one from a couple weeks ago to show me how much I've changed (like I'm not feeling every little change, hehe). And it became pretty obvious why I get so short of breath so easily. My belly is sitting much higher these days than it was.
Symptoms: We went to my 30 week appointment on Monday which included an ultrasound. My blood pressure was a little higher (still within the normal range but slightly high for me) so she's going to keep an eye on that. I'll be seeing her every other week for the next month and then will go weekly until the baby makes his arrival.
She said the tightness and uncomfortableness was all normal. Again, it was basically suck it up, buttercup. Sigh. It might be a long couple weeks!
We did have a funny moment at the doctor's office. Normally The Pilot is pretty quiet during the appointments but right before she started the ultrasound, he stood up and asked her if he could take a picture. I was stunned. One, I had no idea what he would have wanted to take a picture of in that moment and two, the fact that he jumped up pretty quickly. She started to laugh while I laid there, clueless. This was what was humorous and photo-worthy to The Pilot:
A prego belly covered in an ultrasound goo smiley face. Not sure if I should be amused the my doctor has a sense of humor...or annoyed that the "joke" was on me since I couldn't actually see my belly from the angle I was laying at. :)
Activity: The Pilot and I walked around our neighborhood for a couple hours on Saturday (garage sales!). It was a beautiful morning and it was nice to get some exercise. But boy did I pay the price. I hardly slept Saturday night and could barely get out of bed on Sunday morning because my hips were so angry. Then I got frustrating news from the doctor on Monday. While I sort of suspected what she told me, it was still upsetting for me to hear. It really seems like the hip pain is just made worse by walking any measurable distance (I'm talking miles here). There isn't anything I can magically do to make it better other than avoid anything that makes the pain worse...like walking. Sigh. The doctor suggested I try swimming more to keep active if I wanted. I do have access to a pool (and now have a swim suit that fits) but it's just not the same. I'm trying to tell myself that I can still get a great workout by running and walking in water (the pool I have access to, at my parents' house, isn't really conducive to swimming laps) and that it will feel great to feel weightless...especially in these last weeks as my weight slowly (or not so slowly) increases. I keep reminding myself to be thankful that baby boy is doing well and I really am having a pretty uneventful and healthy pregnancy. But the part of me that is still trying to hang onto at least a little bit of my pre-baby life is frustrated.
Best moment this week: Baby boy got hugs from his cousins last weekend. My 9-year-old niece always hugs me when I see her but she now hugs the belly too. She gives "me" a hug first (sort of from the side) but then moves around in front of me and hugs my belly. It's so cute. She rubs my belly too. While she doesn't talk to him yet, I swear it's like she communicating with him somehow by how deliberate her belly rubs seem. My 5-year-old nephew also "hugged" the baby. More like ran at me while I braced myself for impact and then he kind of bounced off my belly. We're working on toning down the "violence" of his hugs. :)
Miss anything? Triathlon season. The tri that I did last summer was over the weekend. It made me a little sad that I'm sitting this tri season out. Hopefully I'll be able to get back at it. Even though I've always considered race walking and running/shuffling distance races my "A" sport, I really have enjoyed the triathlons I've done. I miss mixing things up.
Movement: The doctor wants me to start counting his movements twice a day (to make sure I count 10 movements within one hour). I'm sure this won't be a problem. Even though he's getting bigger, he's still really wiggly in there. The movements certainly aren't flutters anymore. He's rearranging my internal organs some days.
Food cravings: One carton of strawberries put away...and no fewer than 6 nectarines.
Gender: A monster boy apparently. According to the ultrasound he's measuring in the 86th percentile. The doctor estimated that he'll be well over 8 pounds at birth. Say what?? So much for having a tiny baby like I was at birth (just under 6 pounds).
Looking forward to: Slowing down. While June is still pretty busy, I have done my best to keep July mostly free of commitments. I knew that I probably wouldn't be up for too much by then and I'm looking forward to spending even more time with The Pilot as a family of two before our world changes completely.
Not looking forward to: At this point I'm kind of looking forward to everything. Being done. Meeting our baby. More baby showers. Stuff like that. I'm trying desperately to focus on those things because I'm growing more uncomfortable by the day. I'm trying not to think about just how uncomfortable I'm most likely going to be towards the end.
Milestones: The 30-week growth scan...to tell us he's a monster baby. :)

No Dumping
We recently finished up the nursery so The Pilot documented the final product. Now all we need is a baby!I knew I didn't want a "cutesy" baby nursery. I also didn't want to wait to start on the nursery until we found out the gender so we opted for a neutral gray and yellow theme that we could accessorize once we found out the gender. When we bought the house, my brother and sister-in-law gave us an extra twin bed they had. I found an inexpesive sheet set at Target that was yellow and gray. Once we found out we were having a baby, we decided to leave the twin bed in the room and run with the yellow and gray color scheme.
The Pilot painted the room, and helped my Dad install a ceiling fan. I bought an extra set of the same sheets, determined to make my first sewing project...7-foot long blackout curtains. (The sewing machine was a gift from The Pilot for Christmas. I had to promise to learn to sew and actually use it!). Not sure what I was thinking when I decided to make such large curtains for not just one, but two windows with my minimal sewing experience. Go big or go home? There were calls and emails to both my mom and my mother-in-law, some cursing and a whole lot of tangled thread but the curtains are on the wall and are actually functional!
Again, knowing we wanted something unique that didn't scream nursery, we decided to hit up an antique store to look for some things to decorate the nursery. The antique store proved to be the mother load. We came across some Volkswagon hub caps first and thought they were cool. And then we found the road signs. The Pilot spotted the directional signs and I liked that they were yellow. If I wasn't going to get my nature themed nursery, anything we did decide to go with had to match the curtains that I spent DAYS making.
We made the decision if we were going to get the signs then we had to go with the whole car theme completely. When we saw the No Dumping sign, we both laughed at it..... then seriously considered it. It would be pretty darn funny. Plus, it was pretty inexpensive "art" for the size (about 4' x 2.5'). We wandered around the store for a while thinking about it. I think it may have been finding the small Herbie car that made me realize that it would be a pretty cool room for a boy. One that would grow with him. We commented that he could take the No Dumping sign to college to decorate his dorm room. Now, can't you picture that??
As much as I love Disney, I didn't want a Disney themed nursery. But having a small tribute was the perfect touch! Herbie rides again!
We also found a yellow European license plate and a street crossing sign....which found a home right above the light switches. There's also a cat photo bombing the picture above. Little did he know that he was about to get kicked out of the room. We've been letting the cats sleep on the twin bed but it's time to make the nursery a cat-free room. So sad. They love sleeping on the twin bed, but I certainly don't want to find a cat sleeping in the crib. Maybe when the kiddo is bigger (and not allergic to cats like both his parents), we can let the cats sleep in there if they want.
I had some fabric leftover from the curtain so I decided to make a skirt for the crib. When the mattress is in the highest (infant) position, you could see into the storage drawer under the mattress. I knew it wouldn't be seen for long (until we lower the mattress once the baby gets bigger) but since I had the fabric, I figured I'd give it a try. All went well until I started to hot glue the velcro to the mattress frame. I figured it would hold the velcro long enough but would be easy to peel off once we didn't need to skirt anymore. Sounds easy enough until I somehow managed to burn my finger. Badly. Being slightly crafty, I'm not stranger to hot glue burns. But usually you just rub the glue off, it stings a little but then it's no big deal. But for some reason this was a bad burn. Requiring lots of cold water, and eventually the first aid kit for some burn cream because I couldn't seem to get the heat out! The things I'm going through already for this child! ;)At my shower last weekend, my sister-in-law's mom gave us a GENIUS gift! Long story short, she ended up with a Lion King crib mobile on her hands. Then she found out we were pregnant and hung onto it. Then she heard about the nursery theme and she got crafty! She printed some funny road signs and made little pillows out of them with some ribbon. She gave me both the little pillows and the Lion King mobile, knowing we'd get crafty ourselves and make a custom mobile that matched the nursery. So The Pilot took the existing fabric and little baby Simbas off the original mobile and added the little road signs. Not only was it extremely thoughtful but The Pilot and I both love the final product. There is a 4th pillow that isn't pictured....it has a plane on it as a warning to watch for low flying aircraft. :)
That one in front cracks me up...watch for falling cows??
So that's the room! The closet still needs a little work as we slowly start accumulating more and more baby gear.

Week 28
Week 28
I look like I can barely keep my eyes open...maybe because that's the truth.
How far along? 28 weeks
Maternity Clothes? I'm in about 99% maternity clothes but there are a few laying pieces (think open hoodies and cardigans) that I'm still wearing. We usually snap the weekly pictures on the weekend so they all look pretty casual. Maybe I should snap a few when I'm still in my work clothes. For prosperity? Or so I can look back in 20 years and laugh at how bad the clothes are. Trouble is about 2.5 seconds after I get home from work, I am in my pajamas. Clothing in general just seems uncomfortable lately. With the exception of a dirt cheap obese man's t-shirt I picked up at a Kohl's clearance. I'm taking less than $5 for the biggest, softest t-shirt I've ever seen. I'm not even sure how many Xs are in front of the L. It's so ugly. And so comfortable that I just don't care.
Have you started to show? I just told you my secret about the ugly t-shirt. I think that says it all. I will NOT be posting a photo of that.
Symptoms: Tying my shoes sideways? As in, it's too hard to bend over so I cross my leg over my knee and tie my shoes that way. Which results in a bow that is at the inside of my foot instead of the center. There's also some minor swelling in my hands and feet. And why it is an Olympic feat to roll over or sit up in bed is beyond me. Have my ab muscles disappeared somewhere in there? I fear there will be a day The Pilot is away and my co-workers will be trying to call, wondering where I am. I will be stuck in bed like a turtle on it's back.
Activity: Weed pulling and laundry? Standing for 2+ hours at a concert? Those things all happened...and all zapped my energy more than expected. Sigh.
Best moment this week: The Pilot attempting to read to the baby...until I got a major case of the giggles. Baby boy was jumping around and I STILL laugh every time I SEE and FEEL him move at the same time. So there I am, laughing, with my belly shaking like Santa. Which then caused The Pilot to start laughing. So there we are, both laughing for no real reason at all. This poor kid. I sure hope he has a sense of humor because he'll have to in order to tolerate his parents.
Miss anything? Caffeine. As sleep becomes increasingly more disrupted, I wake up exhausted. And there are mornings when I would give anything for a Coke. But I cut out caffeine when I found out we were expecting. Not that it was that difficult. I usually only had one Coke a WEEK and that was about it in terms of caffeine. I didn't really notice when I switched that weekly Coke with a water or sometimes orange juice until the last 2 weeks or so. I find myself craving a full strength Coke! I've had a few random caffeine-free colas but there are mornings lately where I could really use an extra jolt! But I don't. I figure my kid will be twitchy enough without the added stimulant.
Movement: I don't think I will ever get used to this! It still blows my mind each time I feel him kick, squirm, grab my internal organs, etc. It's so bizarre. There are times when it's comforting because I know he's still doing well in there. But there are also times where he does something weird that makes me stop dead in my tracks. Either he's punched my bladder and I darn near pee my pants or there is the time I swear it felt like I ran into something with my belly. But didn't. He must have been tugging from the inside or something weird like that. It's pretty amazing what the female body experiences during this whole crazy process!
Food cravings: Less than a pound of strawberries this week...but I may have made up for it in nectarines which had started making an appearance at the grocery. I'll apologize to The Pilot now because our budget is about to be slapped around as the local farmers' market opens up soon. And I swear the nectarine farmer sprinkles crack on his fruit when he sees me coming down the sidewalk.
Gender: It's a boy! And after hearing my brother tell me all about my niece's first slumber party for her 9th birthday, I'm thankful. Wow. Lots of drama coming from 8- and 9-year old girls! I doubt we'll experience anything like that with a boy. But also after taking a look at my 5-year-old nephew's knees, I think we may need to start stock piling band-aids and beef up our first aid kit! He's rough and tumble for sure!
Looking forward to: We have another ultrasound coming up soon so I'm looking forward to seeing him again. Hopefully he's still a he! I also get to see some of my closest friends and family this weekend at my first baby shower!
Not looking forward to: I'm already getting a taste of what is to come in the next 2 months. Hot. Uncomfortable. Less sleep. None of which are things I am particularly fond of. Luckily it will be temporary.
Milestones: Third trimester! Holy smokes this is going fast. Part of me wants time to slow down. The other, more uncomfortable part of me, is looking forward to the end of pregnancy and the beginning of parenthood (you know, an entirely different kind of uncomfortable).

Week 27
Week 27
This is what a 6-months pregnant lady looks like after walking 3-miles in the rain...yikes!
How far along? 27 weeks
Maternity clothes? Since I finally got in a real, sweat-inducing workout over the weekend, let's chat about maternity workout gear. So that's even harder to find than non-striped maternity shirts that are comfortable and don't look like a mumu. Up until now, I've been wearing my regular gear that was always a little roomy with the addition of two t-shirts that were a size or two larger than what I normally wear. But now those aren't working out anymore. They aren't long enough and leave some of the baby bump peaking out. No one needs to see that. I sucked it up and spent a little extra dough on a pair of maternity workout capris that have worked wonders. They are super comfy...though they are getting a little more snug these days. I also bought a maternity workout top from the same company ).
Have you started to show? I think that's obvious. I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings since Sunday. :( On Monday I thought my fingers were still swollen from all the heat on Sunday but I tried again Tuesday and they were just too tight. I'm a little self-conscious about not wearing my rings. Even though I never workout with my rings on, I feel weird being out and about and pregnant without "proof" that I'm married. While I don't particularly care what order other people do the whole marriage/kids thing (that's their own business!), it weirds me out a little. Call me old school. Luckily I have a diamond ring I used to wear on my right hand before The Pilot made an honest woman out of me and it seems to fit my left hand ok for now.
Symptoms: Not much new this week though I am really losing the ability to roll over in bed. I don't understand why it's so difficult but it is. And that makes me sad because I actually wake up in order to roll over. It's quite the production to roll...which has to happen a lot because my hips start to ache after I lay on one for too long. I'm also fairly certain that the random "tightness" I get in my belly from time to time really are Braxton-Hicks contractions. They aren't painful but they certainly aren't comfortable, that's for sure.
Activity: Yeay for last weekend! I also pulled weeds and planted a couple flowers last week. Naturally my back had a fit about that but I'm going to call that activity.
Best moment this week: My new favorite thing...sitting on the couch with The Pilot after dinner and watching "the show." Also known as the little man doing cartwheels. After dinner is probably the most active time that I've noticed and not only are the movements strong but they are very visible. And yes, I am still cracking up each time. It's sort of hard for The Pilot to feel for the movements when I get the giggles. Something else that happens now...my belly shakes when I laugh. Who else is picturing The Night Before Christmas and how Santa's belly shakes like a bowl full of jelly?
Miss anything? Not really. I get random urges to ride my bike. And of course spectating a marathon over the weekend made me miss the aspects of training and working towards that goal. I quickly reminded myself that I have another pretty important goal that I'm working on right now.
Movement: See "best moment this week" above. :)
Food cravings: Only one pound of strawberries this week....and that's just because there was nearly a whole carton that was a fail. Mold. :( My "need" for chocolate seems to have increased this week. I try to keep that one at bay though. I've also had an awful lot of fruit popsicles lately (actually made with real fruit). They have magical powers to cool me off. So does cranking the AC and putting my feet on one of the air vents. I got that tip from the cat. She loves the AC and often hangs out near the vent...
Gender: I had another realization this week. Because he's a boy, he'll probably be more likely to play with Legos and Lincoln Logs. While I'm obviously a girl, I have an older brother so I grew up playing with these toys. And still enjoy both. :) Heck yeah for building entire villages with Lego buildings, Lincoln Logs houses and Matchbox cars driving around on "roads" made from blocks my dad made from his scrap wood pile. Sorry, Megatron, your mom and dad might be playing with your toys more than you do.
Looking forward to: Playing with the baby's toys? ;) My baby showers are getting closer and I can't wait to see my friends and family!
Not looking forward to: The summer heat. My brother already told me to stop complaining because this is nothing compared to what early August is going to feel like. Ever the optimist, that one. :P
Milestones: I recently read that baby is practicing breathing now. Inhaling and exhaling...amniotic fluid. Crazy! He's also up to 2.5 pounds and 14 inches long.
And just in case you wanted to know who the photographer is each week....
OK, not really but this week she was sitting at the base of the tripod, facing where I was standing as if she was The Pilot's photography assistant. Obviously we don't have kids yet because we are still taking cat pictures...
